Getting to Waimana Spa

Waimana Spa is a two hour drive from Auckland on the beautiful Coromandel Peninsula. Nestled in a high valley overlooking the sea, just 500 metres past well-known Mana Retreat Centre (see manaretreat, com).

â??Waiâ?? means water in Maori and "Mana"Â spiritual strength or life force. With natural springs from the mountain, our swimming pool and hot pool and being adjacent to Mana, the name Waimana seemed to flow naturally.

Driving north up the Peninsula on State Highway 25, Waimana and Mana are 38 km (45 minutes driving time) from Thames, 3 km south of Manaia village and a 15km drive to  the historic village of Coromandel, a great destination for good coffee, food and quality artworks by local artisans.

From Thames the road follows the coast until Wilson Bay where the highway heads inland and uphill. After a short dip the road rises again to Manaia or Kereta Summit and Rest Area. From there proceed downhill 2 km, past 55km and 45km signs on sharp corners. Turn right at the Mana Retreat Centre sign which is attached to some stockyard fencing. If you are coming after dark, look for a series of red reflectors attached to the stockyard fencing. Caution is required in entering our driveway, day or night, due to oncoming traffic.

A short distance in you will pass a side road on the left to Dharma Gaia Meditation Centre. Continue up the driveway one kilometer and you will see Mana Retreat Centre with a fish pond and a palm tree beside the center office. Continue on past the tennis court and some buildings on the left. As you enter the bush you will see Ponga Lodge on your right and the driveway changes from tar seal to gravel. Carry on about 500 metres past water tanks on your left, around a corner and down a steep hill before coming up out of the bush. The cottage and the Studio are the first buildings on your left. A little further you see a wooden house with gables and this is where you will find your hosts.

We have many beautiful walking tracks on the land, so a good pair of shoes is recommended. A visit to the beautiful stone-hewn Tara Sanctuary at the foot of Mt Pukewhakataratara, just 200 metres up the mountain from Waimana is a must. At 9am and 6pm the sound of ringing bells fills the air over the hills. Mana facilities include a tennis court and a sauna.

When available Waimana clients can purchase vegetarian meals from Mana Retreat. It you are staying in the Cottage or the Studio Unit please bring only vegetarian food.
Travel safely. Please contact us on 021893055 or 07 8668971 if you have any trouble finding your way. For other concerns contact waimanaspa@theradiantbody.com
