Listening to the Body’s Wisdom
with Sol Petersen

October 2-4, 2009  near Melbourne, Australia

a weekend exploration of empowerment in body, mind and spirit

This weekend seminar, as part of the transformational medicine journey explores the nature of our embodiment through movement, meditations, touch and inter-personal exercises. It will guide us in the development of our body-mindfulness and our heartfulness.  It is from this ground that our spirit inspires the flow of our life path.

 Body-Mindfulness and Body Wisdom
Body-Mindfulness is the foundation for each of us to develop body intuition, body skills and body wisdom. Shunryu Suzuki says, ‘Wisdom is not something to learn. Wisdom will come out of your mindfulness.’
Our body is where we are. It is the temple of our spirit and the gateway of our awakening. It contains all the wisdom we need in our development as full human beings. But this wisdom is often hidden in the “unconscious” and not available to our “ordinary” state of mind. And exactly what is mindfulness? Nyanaponika Thera says, ‘Mindfulness is the clear and single-minded awareness of what actually happens to us and in us at the successive moments of perception.’ Even more importantly mindfulness is an open-hearted acceptance of the present moment experience.

Our body reflects many levels of our inner reality. Our posture and shape, our facial expressions and body nuances, our voice, our style of moving and being, the energetic field that we emanate is all a reflection of our emotions, beliefs and inner experience.
Our patterns, both physical and psychological, especially limiting ones have tremendous insight to offer us. Safety and a non-forceful attitude are essential factors in befriending our unconscious and revealing its gifts.

The content of this workshop is largely experiential inspired by Sol’s 25 years of practice and teaching in somatic therapies, his meditation and taiji background and the work of Ron Kurtz and the Hakomi method of body psychotherapy. Sol is a poet and musician and has a gentle and humorous way of sharing his knowledge.

This class will introduce principles and impart basic techniques and exercises to help create the healing relationship and understand what our habitual posture and movements can reveal. We will explore mindfulness and loving presence as primary factors in transformation. This seminar will awaken a new vitality and inspire your embodied awareness.

Comments from participants of "Listening to the Body's Wisdom" August, 2005 at the University of Westminster, London

Melanie, Psychologist and Yoga Therapist:  "In this workshop, I learned that when listening becomes effortless, the body and mind return to the wisdom of love and loving."

Louise, Massage Therapist:   I'd recommend this course to any practitioner who wants to remember what their work is all about. Inspiring, useful, at times challenging- but at the same time very supportive of each person's natural capacities for meaningful touch. thank you.
